THE STORY BEGINS

“Hello, I am Nestor and this is my story. Historians know this story well but they have no idea of how it could have happened…”

At Bali Cliff overlooking Ocean. Present Day. Beautiful day. Surfing wave breaking below. Prince and Princess wearing ceremonial attire, look longingly at the surf, while mother and father wait in a black SUV, parked beside a beautiful bamboo home structure.

My story, The Last Rajas of Bali, is inspired by factual events and true Bali legend. Who am I? I am Nestor, but I will tell you more about myself soon.

This story begins in the present day in a majestic and magical place at the very southern tip of the Bali Bukit peninsula, perched upon a five-hundred-foot cliff, whose sheer drop opens onto the majestic Indian ocean with its powerful waves crashing on the rocky beach far below. It is a vast tract of land whose ocean edges have been hand-transformed by Balinese craftsmen into a magical place for visitors to lunch, enjoy selfie-taking, relax in its pool, partake in a spa, or even create great novels!

Situated beside the sacred Uluwatu Temple lands, the magic of the Temple lands crosses over onto this property, carried by its marauding troops of sacred monkeys and the odd slithering python. Tradition has it that certain warrior spirits are even strategically placed to ensure the high vibration of the property. The land is stewarded by Panji, whose Balinese family tree dates back centuries—but to our story

This morning, the vista is particularly majestic, as the open Indian Ocean sparkles in the bright sun. The sky is cloudless, and the beautiful contrast of pale blue sky perfectly intersected by a slightly darker, aqua blue sea.

Bali, Indonesia. Legend says that when the earth was created and complete in all its splendor, the first morning of the earth was in Bali - a paradise of undisputed beauty. But alas, it has been the fate of man to struggle with his human nature - even in paradise. Unlike the lion, the dolphin, or the morning dove, our nature - that is to say, what it means to be "human" - struggles with its capacity to be divineand its immense capacity for inhumanity to its own species.

This is the story of these contrasts told in the context of the last dynasty of rulers of the place home to the first morning of the earth. All the major events of this story are known to Historians but what the Historians cannot understand, is how they could have possibly happened. This is a story of the last Rajas of Bali - to which I am connected by fate
